A stand-alone QMS or isolated eQMS can still perform governance workflows with discipline. What it often cannot do—without deep integration—is prove that the right person performed the right action, in the right sequence, using the right materials and equipment, with the right authority, while preserving data integrity and a defensible audit trail across the full operational record.

This is why the “death” of stand-alone QMS should be interpreted as a structural change in audit expectations, not a rejection of quality governance. Auditors still expect controlled procedures, training oversight, and investigation rigor. But modern inspection practice increasingly treats “workflow completion” as a weak proxy for control.
